A myth: neighbor’s garden
Cherries in neighbor’s garden is a german filmcomedy from Erich Engels from the year 1935. The premiere was on the 20 th December 1935. Under the title Fruit in the Neighbor’s Garden it was published in 1937 on the US-american market. Before it was already published as Kirsikoita naapurin puutarhassa in Finnland. With a song- and danceevent Margot Höpfner and her sister Hedi Höpfner were on stage as the sisters Höpfner.
Twenty years later a remake was done under the same name: cherries in neighbor’s garden with Mario Adorf, Peter Alexander, Paul Henckels, Grethe Weiser, Oskar Sima and Ursula Herking.
In a linguistic way the expression means forbidden fruits, alluring persons; esomething which is alluring, especially when you don’t have it and evocate envy.Metaphoric it tells something about the possible causes to be unfaithful and over the conditions to stay at home. A title of a book is called: With the men and women behind the other side of the safety curtain it is nothing else as with the cherries in the garden of your neighbour. You always crave forsomething that you don’t have right now. The cherries in the garden of your neighbour are always bigger whatever bright exemplares you have on your own tree. Faithfulness is a high value in partnerships but for some personn it is still hard to ignore the cherries in the garden of his neighbour.
Today there are more and more fights between neighbours, because of hanging bushes over the fence or a wrongly measured area of the ground instead of watching somebody in the garden next door. But still it is the same disaster and can take years and years to find a solution; in many cases it even ends in the court.”
