My garden, my playground

delightful garden

If you happen to own a garden you are considered lucky, and a delightful garden may be your personal aim. What delights you is, of course, highly individual, and it is you who decides. There are different types of garden owners, as a consequence, you get a variety of gardens, each of which may be called a delightful garden by its owner. Take the no-nonsense, slightly lazy type. To him, a delightful garden means a garden that is easy to manage, that does not require a lot of planning, watering, in short, an uncomplicated piece of land on which to spend one`s spare time.
To others, a delight may be a collection of rare plants, maybe brought back home from trips to foreign countries. Some cactuses from Spain accompany a collection of nice-smelling herbs one has received as a gift. Some rose bushes or rhododendrums, this may be a colourful and very personal way of creating a garden. Another idea might be to plant flowers in one, usually the favourite, colour. A garden set in orange or yellow is something that pleases the eyes and does your soul tremendous good. Colours are here to light up your day, so why not not usen them in your garden, too?
A delight to some people is a garden that sports both plants and water, such as a pond. In this pond fish may live, insects may find a place. Some ornaments, depending on the style of the garden, may be added, too: lanterns, Asian or Moroccan style, little balls that light up at night, potholders in various colours. Whatever pleases one`eyes and satisfies one`s personal taste is acceptable. After all, your garden serves your recreation and it is not meant to impress other people. If this is the case, fine, but first and foremost, it is your place, a place where you can relax, potter about with your plants, cut this twig, and move that pot to another, sunnier place. The Chinese say: If you want to be happy all your life, create a garden.
