The formal garden is characterized by symmetry and the balance of plants put together with architectural features. Usually this type of garden comes up with, as some other types of gardens aswell, plantings, fountains and pools. It is not necessary to be extravagant in any way to give an garden the touch of formal design. It’s more important to keep in mind that formal gardens are not just the classic French parterres of Versailles for example. In addition to that, formal gardens aren’t fossils aswell.

Triggered Feelings
Proportion and place are important factors to make the triggered magic of a formal garden happen. By having everything in its place and in proportion a feeling of calmness comes along. Timelessness and safeness are the most common words to describe the feelings caused by formal gardens. They aren’t based on fashion. But they are based on a balanced design which is created by architectural features such as geometric configurations and clipped evergreens. The special thing about the clipped evergreens is that they can be transformed into any animals, fish, flowers or even geometrical shapes, plus their “”beauty in green”" can be regarded the whole year.

The Formal Style
The style of those formal gardens is not confined to the classic French gardens. There can be found many beautiful examples of formal gardens in New Orleans and the best of it is that they can be viewed by interested people which means that those evergreen places are open to the public.

To conclude, formal gardens mostly contain the same typical features such as plantings and pools as many other gardens do. The difference of formal gardens to a normal type of garden lies in their balance which is produced by the architectural features such as the symmetry or the decorative pattern and of course the variety and creativity of the clipped evergreens. In addition to that, we shouldn’t forget about the fact that people that make their way through those gardens, or only let their eyes come across formal gardens, are facing a feeling of calmness and safeness connected with a touch of elegance and charm which seem to be really great associations for an visit or look through a garden.
